Shad are starting the fall movement into the coves, and fish will follow them as the water cools. With the shorter days we have been shortening hours at the marina so be sure to call ahead – 6604382939. Minnows will still be available at all times until we close for the season. Somewhere around the 1st of November, weather dependent.
White bass have been good around the KK island flats 8 to 13 feet of water using spoons and rooster tails or trolling a chrome crankbait. Very few hybrids to report.
Walleye have been a bit slow but being found trolling flicker shad in 8 to 12 feet around KK island. Also main lake points near the channel drops with a big crankbait has been productive.
Bass – spinnerbait bite is picking up in the mouths of small pocket coves. Topwater early and late, rattle traps and small crankbaits on secondary points is catching quite a few.
Crappie are starting to move from summer pattern drifting to bluffs down about 15 feet with minnows. Or, the standing timber flats 12 to 16 feet of water near the bottom with minnows. As usual the brush piles are good and spider rigging the edges of the creek channels is good.
Catfish have continued to do well. Jugs on the flats using cut bait. And trot lines in the mouth of the big coves around 12 feet down. Some cats are starting to move into the larger coves following the shad. This should increase as the water cools.
With the lake this low be careful out there. It’s a great time to find some new trees that have been hiding and mark them on your map for future trips. It looks like a nice weekend to get out and enjoy the lake before fall takes over. The trees are starting to turn color in places .
Until next time, bass wishes!
