Fishing Notes |

It has been a while and I apologize. Some things have happened in my personal life that has prevented me from fishing. Although, it turned out to be a blessing in disguise. I opened my own automotive repair shop in Clinton Mo. and couldn’t be happier! We met some friends and left Truman State Park around 9:30 Sunday morning. Turning left and heading up river towards Long Shoal the water was choppy, but not ROUGH. I went to a spot that has always held fish and not surprisingly it still does! We set up and dropped some jigs. Once again they would follow but wouldn’t commit to the bite. I caught a 10” fish that felt HEAVY on my rod, and shortly after a bigger fish took my jig. As I was lifting it into the boat it shook off my hook. Ugh! I decided to move over to the Osage arm and to a cove that is shielded from the direct wind but is a funnel to the wind. I put another keeper in the boat (11” black) but the wind was so strong spot lock had us turning in circles. We decided to call it quits a little after 1:00. The ride back to the marina wasn’t as rough. It was similar to surfing, stay on top of the wave and try not to drop in the trough. All in all it was a great day of fishing, not a great day of catching fish. I love this time of year, the smells, the cooling temps, deer season just around the corner, and fishing is only going to get better. |
