Chet Douthit

When it comes to bass fishing, Chet Douthit knows a thing or two. He has competed at the professional level for a long time, qualifying for his first Bassmaster Classic in 1980. That’s when people started calling to book him for trips on Truman Lake. Throughout his career, he went on to compete in the Bassmaster Classic eight times.

When Truman was first built, Chet was the first guide on the lake. He guided here for 10 years and remembers that time being exceptional. “I wouldn’t have traded it for any other lake in the U.S.”

Eventually, he began trading his time between guiding on Truman in the summer and Florida in the winter. An opportunity arose and he moved to Florida to begin guiding out of Roland Martin’s Marina. He lived there for 39 years until moving back in the last couple years.

Suffice it to say, Chet has a long track record of landing big bass in tournaments and guiding his clients to once-in-a-lifetime fish. Now that he’s back living near Truman, he’s available for bass trips on the lake throughout the summer. You can find him on Facebook at Chet’s Guide Service.

“I like to do instructional fishing on my trips. I want to teach people why fish are doing what they are doing at different times of the year.”

While Chet loves to focus on bass, he does crappie trips as well and does have Garmin Livescope on his boat for those wanting to learn.
