Dillon Stocking going full time on Truman guiding!

Guide Dillon Stocking, of Get Outdoors Guide Service, is going full time on Truman Lake at the end of November!

Dillon has been a staple in the crappie fishing community on Truman for quite a while now. He has worked for Crappie Masters helping to run the website and assist with tournaments. In fact, he just placed first in the Crappie Masters Individual Championship over the weekend on Truman Lake!

“I didn’t even really get to pre fish,” he said. Folks like to give him grief when he says stuff like that since he is on the water all the time.

Dillon Stocking“There really is a difference between going after 45 keepers with your clients versus catching those 7-8 big ones,” he stated with a chuckle.

On the day, he hit about 8 or 9 spots and ended up with the 5 fish limit he needed. Those 5 fish totaled 8.55 pounds.

“The fish have been in the same areas doing the same things for the last couple months it seems like, so I just went fishin’,” he stated.

He found most of his fish on wood, but 2 of his keepers came on a channel ledge right off the flat. Most were in 10-14 feet of water.

The day wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows for him though. Literally, the wind was howling and the temperature dropped significantly throughout the day as a drizzle of rain moved in. But, he also had a huge crappie break his line that was very close to 2 pounds.

“I thought for sure it was over after that,” he said. “But I just kept grinding.”

Turns out his efforts were enough to win, and for that, we congratulate him!

But the big win isn’t all he has to be excited about. Starting at the end of November, Dillon will be going full time, focusing entirely on guided fishing trips. He has been guiding multiple days a week for the last 4 years, and really picking up in the last 2 years.

Luckily, his hard work is paying off and he’s excited to be able to focus on it full time. His favorite method is one pole dipping, but is very capable when it comes to spider rigging as well.

With Dillon, you’ll have the chance to learn a thing or two about Garmin Livescope and throwing hair jigs to make those big slabs bite.

“I go out of Bucksaw Marina mostly and like to stay in the Grand,” he stated. “But I’ll go to the Tebo or Osage if I have to if that’s where the best bite is.”
