Jeremy Mitchell wins All American Kayak Classic on Truman

All American Kayak Classic

Over the weekend, in a field of 167 kayaks, Jeremy Mitchell came out on top after a long day of fishing on Saturday. It was the first All American Kayak Classic Championship, and as first place finisher, he took home $10,700 in prize money.

“I figured with all the good sticks out there that someone was coming in with 100 inches,” he said. “I guess it was meant to be my day.”

Mitchell finished the day with his best 5 totally 92.75″. In kayak tournaments, they practice a CPR format, or catch, photo, release. The best 5 get counted towards their total length. His best 5 includes a 21.75″, 19.25″, 18″, 17.25″, and a 16.5″.

“The check was nice, but the biggest thing I was excited about was the invitation to the KBF event,” he added. “I don’t feel like I’m at the same level as those guys, so to be able to go fish with them is going to blow my mind and be a great learning experience down on the the Kissimmee chain of lakes.”

Mitchell has been fishing competitively for about 5 years. He credits his success on Truman with a lot of practice leading up to the event. He spent several weekends in the prior month, as well as several days just before the event finding the areas he wanted to focus on.
