4/3/24 Giant 3-pound crappie caught on Truman Lake!

Another giant 3-pound crappie has hit the deck on Truman Lake! Despite the catch falling on April 1st, this was no April Fool’s joke!

Chuck Atwell, owner of Falcon Outdoors Guide Service LLC at Truman Lake, and his wife, Jeanne, snuck out on the morning of April 1st for a few hours after catching up on some yard work. They were in for quite a shock when Jeanne would soon pull a monster in the boat without even having left sight of the boat ramp!

“Jeanne and I met last year and she just started crappie fishing seriously after we met,” Atwell said. “She caught her first limit in February of this year.”

Jeanne caught the fish at about 10am on a pink/white 3/16 ounce jig head tipped with a minnow.

“We just got out for a few hours, but it only took a few minutes to put 3 or 4 fish in the boat,” Atwell recalled.

“We spotted this fish on a limb sitting on about a 45 degree angled tree using Livescope. It was about 8 feet down in 12 feet of water.”

The couple were fishing the mid-Grand and amazingly, were still within sight of their truck, never leaving sight of the launch, when they boated the trophy sized fish.

It weighed exactly 3 lbs. and was 17″ long with a 14″ girth. Best of all, the fish was successfully released after measuring and getting pictures.

One day another lucky angler will have a chance to catch this giant 3-pound crappie, but maybe it’ll even be a little bigger!
